Immigration New Zealand has announced a set of changes to the Active Investor Plus visa designed to give investors greater clarity and certainty when preparing their applications.

Where borrowed funds are used to support an application, those funds must now come from the same country or jurisdiction as the assets being used to support the application. Applicants must also demonstrate that nominated funds were earned or acquired lawfully and transferred through appropriate banking channels.

Investors relying on gifted funds will need to provide proof that the gift was unconditional and complied with all applicable laws.

For managed fund investments, the previous requirement for a non-revocable agreement has been removed. Only a legally binding agreement is now required.

Children born after a visa is approved can now be included as secondary applicants on Permanent Resident Visa and related applications, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria, including being a dependent child who has entered New Zealand on their visa.

Immigration New Zealand noted that the refreshed Active Investor Plus visa has attracted strong interest, with 637 applications and around $3.7 billion in potential investment recorded during its first 12 months.

These changes are intended to create a more transparent and consistent investment migrant programme while reducing uncertainty for prospective investors.
